There is no mystery to happiness.
Unhappy men are all alike. Some wound they suffered long ago, some wish denied, some blow to pride, some kindling spark of love put out by scorn - or worse, indifference - cleaves to them, or they to it, and so they live each day within a shroud of yesterdays.
The happy man does not look back. He doesn't look ahead. He lives in the present.
But there's the rub. The present can never deliver one thing: meaning. The ways of happiness and meaning are not the same. To find happiness, a man need only live in the moment; he need only live for the moment. But if he wants meaning - the meaning of his dreams, his secrets, his life - a man must reinhabit his past, however dark, and live for the future, however uncertain. Thus nature dangles happiness and meaning before us all, insisting only that we choose between them.
The interpretation of a murder, Jed Rubenfeld
We are the sum of all the people that we ever met.
You change the tribe
and the tribe changes you
Fierce people
If after reading all the above you feel happy and complete and a bit sad at the same time, you have proven that nature doesn't force us to choose between happiness and meaning. In fact, I myself can experience something in the present that reminds me of the past and makes me laugh because of it, or gives more meaning to the experience because of it.
Happiness is not always necessarily the feeling you could jump with joy. It can be a more subtle feeling of cherishing what once was there, or rejoycing that something is not there anymore.
However, the concept of time is something that was forgotten here. The concept of time makes what I suggest almost impossible. Almost no one can handle the knowledge of the speed of time, the time waisted, the time that can never be regained...

Hi MonaLiza,
I don't know but results from the past are in no way a guideline for the future.
By this I would like to point out that whatever ordeal you've experienced in the past; you can never be prepared nor adjust to present situations.
And to make things worse; every person in your life has a different personality and by trying to categorize or familiriaze with some behavior, you might end up more disappointed at a later moment.
groetjes blondy...btw you DO Realise that there are TWO anonymous(e)s leaving comments right?
Really...? I thought there was only one.
Well, I think I know one of you secretive persons, but who you are I don't know....the word 'blondy' doesn't really distinguish you from the masses either (not very original). Anyhow, why this urge to be anonymous? Don't you have a nickname I could recognize you by?
hmm, that much i figured from the way you've been replying over the past year.
In any case don't shoot the messenger..just from time to time i'll remember to check your blog..been meaning to point this out for a while actually...and as for 'i thought there was only one'...well, you're always thinking too much eh?
Okay....well, I think you are "R from A" (am i right?)and for the rest, I know one person who left only 1 anonymous comment and I know who that is, but all the rest are yours...aren't they? I don't always reply because I don't always agree with the comments (like the past and the future thing: I am sure that you (ought to) learn by experience, and, although every next situation will never be exactly the same, there are mistakes in some areas of life that after certain lessons learnt I wouldn't make again (at least with new persons).) Anyway, thanks for checking my blog, it at least gives me the feeling someone reads it!
uhh in short, no..most of those comments are NOT my style..hence u seem to reply to my sporadic ones but not to those left in every post...
Aha....well, next time you leave a comment, just write 'R' so I know it's you, okay?
Maybe the other one, leaving all the comments about me having to forget about the bad things of the past and remember only the good things needs to make himself known then.
Is it someone who hurt me in the past and thinks that if I forgot about it he/she will be exonorated or something? Or is it just someone who wants to protect me from harm and so suggests things that can never be (as I never forget anything that made me very happy but also I never forget anything that hurt me, as I'm sure that person doesn't either).
